ニューヨークの歴史の編集について（あとがき）

ニューヨークの歴史をおよそ3年がかりで編集しました。日本語でのニューヨーク史に関する書籍はほとんどないと思いますので、わたしがニューヨーク時代に学んだニューヨーク史をまとめることは、日本語を読む全ての人にとって有益な情報になるものと思い、週末などを利用して少しづつ完成させました。10年近く前の史書を読み直し、学生時代のノートを紐解いて世紀ごとにまとめていくという作業でしたが、学生時代の追憶に引き戻されるような楽しみがありました。大学時代は学生数3万人のマンモス校でしたが、歴史学科専攻はたったの16名という不人気さ。今どき歴史なぞ学ぶ人は少ないですよね。当時、教授に就職口を斡旋願いましたが、教授曰く、「（歴史専攻の生徒には就職先など）Nothing！」といわれたこともあり、今となってはいい想い出となっています。ですが、このような形で日本語を介してニューヨークの歴史（ダイナミズム）を紹介できることは実に有意義なことでした。

また、教授の方々には、ニューヨークの歴史についても多くの資料をご紹介いただき、学ばせていただく機会をいただきました。特に同分野の歴史においては、Barkin女史に学ぶところが多く、講義や以下の著書からも多くを引用させていただいております。BaruchのHistory DeptのHistorian達、およびニューヨークの友人に、深く感謝いたします。
